Absolute Artists – Marilo Cunningham
2013-06-11

Brush strokes that conjure serene realities: this is how I would describe Marilo Cunninghams work.

Marilo recently exhibited her work at our Absolute Artists Gallery ‘Grand Opening’ and received much praise from the local art community. Indeed, her seaside landscapes conjured the energy of the West Coast in a most tangible fashion!

Her latest creation entitled ‘Spirit of Dance’ illustrates her impressive ability to capture motion and a wonderful depth of human emotion.

All shook up!

Boesmanland at Club Mykonos in Langebaan has long been a culinary West Coast institution.
With its laid back atmosphere and traditional South African menu, it always seems to make you feel like you are at a big family gathering. Usually by the end of the night you know everybody at the tables around you anyway!
SUPER chilled :)

The team has decided to host an event with a difference, which sounds like its going to be one serious jol. Get ready for a rip-roaring Elvis themed evening of dinner and dance!!!!

The event will be held on 01 June 2013 – 7pm till late

Winter on the West Coast
2013-05-27

Winter is coming to the West Coast, but what exactly does that mean?!

It seems that people are under the false impression that during the colder winter months that the West Coast becomes completely uninhabitable. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

Winter is a spectacular time to visit the West Coast for a variety of reasons.

Perhaps the best thing about the winter for me is the fact that the sea temperature is actually warmer. Yep, you heard me right. The reason for this is mainly because of the change in wind direction, which shifts from the south-east to a north-westerly direction. In summer the wind from the south-east blows away the top layer of warm water and is replaced by an icy cold upwelling of water from the ocean floor (you definitely need the summer sun to survive that). Winter water = awesome. Not to mention that the winter swell makes for amazing waves; all you surfers are in for a real treat!

Footloose in Darling 2013
2013-05-22

Time to get ‘footloose’ with the fan-damily!

The annual Footloose in Darling festival is back once again and will take place on Saturday 25th May 2013. This is the type of event which caters to the whole family – so rest assured that everyone will have a great time. The most important thing about Footloose is to simply relax and slowly meander through the quaint Darling village, take in all the sights and enjoy some laid back family fun.

Darling has long been something of a nexus for art and creative individuals, which means that there is a constant stream of unique and wonderful things to indulge the senses. This sleepy little village is a treasure trove of weird and wonderful and never ceases to amaze us. Every time we visit we discover something new!

While the festival is about taking it easy and enjoying some quality time with the family it is also about giving back to the less fortunate. The festival organizers ask that all those attending please bring along a pair of shoes (more would be appreciated of course) which you are no longer using and donate them to people who truly needs them. The organizers had this to say “Over 85% of South Africans have shoes as their only means of private transport. Their feet and their shoes are essential to their ability to work and so feed a family. Those of us who have an excess of shoes can use the FOOTLOOSE as a means to help others. What might be old shoes to you, WILL be new shoes to others.”

2013-05-21

Absolute Artists’ ‘Spectacular Grand Opening’ was everything we could have wished for and more!

Truly, we were overwhelmed by the massive amount of support we received from like-minded locals. The compliments and positive feedback about the artwork and gallery itself has given us a huge confidence boost and made us very excited for all the good things to come.

Andries would like to send his thanks to all those attended. This was the perfect setting for him to introduce his artwork to the West Coast community and was overjoyed at the response he recieved. He hopes that we can all get together for another Absolute Artists event in the near future. We have already begun pondering what we will do next!
